Inhaler with GPS & WiFi?
In 2009, a scientist from University of Madison-Wisconsin started using GPS to track asthmatics in order to better understand what was causing their asthma attacks. The technology is now becoming available for the public with the Spiroscout inhaler that is USB powered & uses GPS & WiFi.
This was super interesting to me because, I myself am an asthmatic. It would be interesting to be able to see trends in my asthma attacks & keep track of them using this technology. Asthma patients are usually asked to keep a log of their attacks anyways (if you're like me, you don't), but technology like this makes it easier for them to do so. They don't need to do it because the inhaler does it for them.

It can be programmed to work in your swimming pool for up to 6 hours. Its wheels can even climb the walls of your pool to get every spot! Honestly though, unless you really, really love that pool of yours or are super rich, you're not going to want one. It has an MSRP of bout $1500.
I just thought it was kind of cool that technology is even advancing for daily tasks like pool-cleaning. They've taken the robot that automatically moves around & vacuums floors & made a pool-cleaning robot. What's next?

Saturday's Full Moon
This weekend, you should take notice at the full moon. According to cnn.com, Saturday's full moon is a super "perigee moon". This means that it will be about 31,000 miles closer to the Earth than when it is at its farthest point, looking 14% bigger & being 30% brighter. If you miss it, don't plan on seeing such a sight again until 2029!

Laptops for kids
Intel & Lenovo have recently released a PC called the Classmate+. This PC is specifically designed for kids. BUT. This PC isn't being sold directly to the public. It is to be sold in bulk to educational institutions. These PCs are basically netbooks with a handy little handle on them for optimum portability for kids on the go from home to school, school to home, & wherever else.
I find it interesting that many schools are providing these handy laptops for their students. The world today is so technologically driven & getting to be more-so by the day.

iPad 2
The iPad 2 is almost finally here. Just one more week! The new iPad has many new, attractive features & accessories. It's thinner, lighter, faster, with a TEN HOUR battery. That's right. It has a dual core A5 chip, which makes it faster. The iPad 2 has two cameras (you can video call on them!), and they come in black or white. The new cover that is available also doubles as a keyboard/upright stand.
Let's just say that I am going to start saving my money for the new iPad 2.

Amazon takes on Netflix
This summer, my family & I discovered the wonder of Netflix for movie rental. $9.99 a month for unlimited movie rentals as well as instant streaming of various movies and tv shows through my brother's XBox, Wii, & through any computer. How can you beat that? Well it seems that good ol' Amazon is starting to work on it.
According to CNN, Amazon is now offering free online streaming of movies for those who subscribe to Amazon Prime service. However, when Amazon offers 5 of this year's 10 Best Picture Oscar nominees for instant streaming, there is a $3.99 fee for 24 hrs whether or not you have Amazon Prime.

Sleep as an Droid
The app of the day on Gizmodo today is called Sleep as an Droid for Android devices. This app is an alarm clock that can somehow track your sleep cycle so as not to wake you up in the evil ways those super loud, annoying beeping alarm clocks do.
The app is said to wake you with a soft, ascending alarm when you are in light sleep. This is suppose to be perfect for people who are usually grumpy when they wake up in the mornings.
But does it actually work? How does it work? I feel like I'd need more of this type of info before I actually buy into it. I do think, however that Android is on the right track. If there can be a guaranteed way to track your sleep patterns, this type of technology would be perfect for people like me, who can't seem to get up in the morning.

Google Translate App.
I don't own an iPhone... yet. But I find the new Google Translate App for the iPhone pretty exciting. I've learned some Spanish & am now just learning German so I think translate apps are very useful. My boyfriend, being a German major, also tries to talk to me in German sometimes, so being able to have a translator on hand at all times would be great!
Being in college, you meet tons of people from all over who know different languages. Wouldn't it be nice to be able to more easily communicate with them or even just impress them using this helpful app? No more expensive pocket translators when you visit foreign countries either.
The app also has a speak-to-translate feature & a feature that allows you to listen to translations. What a helpful little tool.

Watson
Earlier last month, I saw a commercial on TV about this new technology called Watson. Watson is a special computer that is to compete against two of the best Jeopardy! champions ever. This is to take place this month.
Watson is special mostly because it is able to analyze "subtle meaning, irony, riddles, and other complexities in which humans excel and computers traditionally do not", according to the article on newslite.tv. The article goes on to say that "Watson's ability to understand the meaning and context of human language, and rapidly process information to find precise answers to complex questions, holds enormous potential to transform how computers help people accomplish tasks in business and their personal lives."

Alright, so what if this looks like just fun & games right now. You have to admit, this is pretty darn cool. It's amazing how technology is to that point where all you have to do is drag one electronic device over another to send pictures or files. No more copy & paste, usb flash drives, sending through email or message or any of that. Here's the future. Can you imagine what else this kind of technology can lead to?
The application that you see being used in the video is called Amnesia Razorfish Connect. The actual surface of the table is called Surface. The new device currently only works with iOS.

iPad vs New Tablet Devices
About two hours ago some news about iPads & their competition came up on engadget.com. The article is titled "Apple on iPad competition:Windows is 'big and heavy', next-gen Android tablets are still vapor".
So it seems that Apple's iPad is looking at some competition in the near future. But is this competition legit? Apple doesn't seem too worried. Personally, I don't think they need to worry.
Apple's COO, Tim Cook, generalizes that next to Apple products, Windows products tend to be bigger, heavier, bulkier, & more expensive. He goes on to say that these devices would require a keyboard or stylus. Who would want to go through all that trouble when you can just have an iPad? Google has apparently even said that their operating system wasn't designed for tablets like the iPad.
I don't own an iPad. I don't think I need to own one. But I do own a MacBook Pro & an iPod touch, & I enjoy both of these products very much, especially compared to their competition. I do think that iPads are definitely something cool to have. Everyone I know who does own one, enjoys it & has no complaints.
So, after reading this article, I'm going to say I fully agree with Tim Cook. The other "tablets" are going to be vapor compared to the iPad & iPads to come.
